Childhood Memories- The Bus Ride
5yrs old- TX to AR
Within the next few days after Thanksgiving bio-mom and I took a bus to Arkansas. I remember playing with a Raggedy Andy plastic doll that was held together by elastic cords, You could move the limbs, body and head all around.
It was night. The bus pulled into a lighted place. We stayed in the bus while the other passengers got off. I played quietly with my little doll. The passengers got back on the bus and the bus pulled away.
I looked at my bio-mom and told her I was hungry. She told me I should have said something when the bus had stopped. She never told me that the stop was to get something to eat. How as a 5 year old to know? All I could do was go hungry again in silence…again..

It would normally be expected of the parent to say to the child when the bus stopped are you hungry?, we are stopped so we can go get some food now if you are. But she didn’t do that and you were too young to know the right time to tell her you were hungry. What a sad story.
Agh.. so sad! And then…
every time you write bio-mom, I think of BioDome. lol.
I can only be serious for so long
LOL… It gets confusing with all my parents… Bio- dad, birth certificate dad, adopted dad, step dad.. Adopted mom and bio-mom.. LOL
I hear ya! When they were all alive, I had 7 grandparents – I HATED doing family trees at school.
Some people have absolutely no idea. There’s not a lot of detail in your posts but they say so much.
You are writing these memories really well x
I wish I could provide more detail.. I was so little.. I also suffer brain damage due to beatings as a child.
Thank you so much for your encouragement.
Reading me makes me think how I would like to just get a hold of someone like that, shake them, and ask them ‘where their head is at?’
Really, that is so heart saddening! For an adult to expect a child to realize what a ‘bus stop’ entails is absolutely absurd! Especially a 5 yr old.
I did not have the privilege of knowing my parents, so I can relate to a lot of what you are saying. I am so glad you are feeling better though!
hey!! very innocent and heart touching…
